Disabilities Outreach

Our vision, mission and values

They come from one family’s experience of disability and from the promise in John 10:10b. They shape how we work with children, young people and parent carers.

Our vision

We see families within the disability community equipped, flourishing, and living the dominion life victoriously as people made in the image of God.

In practice, this means parent carers who feel confident and supported, and children and young people who are included at home, at church, at school and in their community.

Our mission

OAKonsult has the mandate to equip parent carers and families within the disability community with biblical principles and truths that will help them find fulfilment in family life, and to promote an inclusive culture in diverse settings where these families can flourish.

How we do this

Our creed

We believe in the sovereignty of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the affairs of man. We hold on to the promise of ‘life in abundance’ in John 10:10b.

Our tagline, “Living life abundantly”, comes from this promise. We believe parent carers can find purpose and fulfilment in caring, whatever it brings.

Parent carers pray together every month on The Praying Carer Channel on YouTube, on the last Tuesday of the month from 6:00 to 6:30pm UK time. Find out about Talking Faith for parent carers.

Our values

Five values guide how we treat every parent carer, child, volunteer and partner.

Faith

Our Christian faith shapes how we work and inspires every programme we run.

Joy

Carers need time for fun and rest. That is why we run wellbeing sessions such as our Zumba classes.

Resilience

We help families build the strength to keep going when caring is hard.

Kindness

We treat every family we meet with compassion and Christ-like care.

Friendship

Through peer support, parent carers meet others who understand and find they are not alone.

Everyone is welcome.

Our faith shapes our ethos, but our support is open to all. We support any parent carer of a child or young person aged 0–25 with additional needs or disabilities, whatever their religion, culture or background.

The same goes for our centres. The Bridge, and OAK Centre Prime when it opens, have a Christian ethos and are open to everyone in the disability community.

If you love and care for a child with disabilities, you belong here.
