We want everyone to be able to use our website, including the children and young people with disabilities and the parent carers we work with. This statement covers oakonsult.org. It explains how accessible the website is, what we know still needs work, and how to ask for help or tell us about a problem.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. We built our new website, launched in October 2026, with these guidelines in mind.
What you can do on this website
You should be able to:
- move around every page with a keyboard alone, with a clear outline showing where you are
- use a screen reader, because pages have a clear structure of headings and our photographs have text descriptions (text alternatives)
- zoom in, and use the website on a phone, tablet or computer
- read text against backgrounds chosen to give strong colour contrast
- turn off movement: if your device is set to reduce motion, we switch off our scroll animations and moving hover effects
- watch our films with captions, where YouTube provides them.
Our films open in a player on the page. You can close it with its Close button or the Esc key, and you return to the link you started from. If you have not accepted all cookies, the player asks before it loads YouTube and offers you the choice to watch on YouTube’s own website instead.
What does not work well yet
We know some parts of the website are not fully accessible:
- Films on YouTube: the video player is made by YouTube, so we cannot control how its buttons work. Not every film has captions, automatic captions can contain mistakes, and our films do not yet have transcripts on this website.
- Donation checkouts: card details are entered in fields provided by Stripe, naira payments use Paystack, and our November appeal uses a checkout run by New Africa Fund. We do not control how accessible these services are. If you have trouble giving online, you can give by bank transfer using the details on our Donate page, or contact us.
- Older PDF documents: some older PDFs, such as flyers and reports, were not designed to be accessible and may not work well with screen readers.
- Other websites: our learning platform at courses.oakonsult.org is a separate website and is not covered by this statement. Other services we link to, such as WhatsApp and YouVersion, are run by other organisations.
If you need something from any of these in a form that works for you, ask us and we will help.
Ask for information in another format
If you need information from this website in a different format, such as large print, plain text or an accessible document, or you would rather talk it through on the phone, contact us:
- email [email protected] with “Accessibility” in the subject line
- call +44 (0)7479 436 823 in the UK
- call +234 814 683 4903 in Nigeria.
Tell us which page or document you need, the format that works for you and the best way to reach you. We will reply to say whether we can provide it and how long it will take.
Report a problem with this website
If you find a problem that is not listed here, or you think we are not meeting the guidelines, please tell us. Email [email protected] with “Accessibility” in the subject line and include:
- the web address of the page
- what you were trying to do and what went wrong
- if you are happy to tell us, the device and browser you use, and any assistive technology, such as a screen reader or voice control.
If you are not happy with how we respond, you can make a complaint.
How we prepared this statement
This statement is based on how we designed and built the website and on our own checks of its pages, such as headings and text alternatives. We have not had a formal accessibility audit.
We prepared this statement on 30 October 2026. We will update it when we make significant changes to the website.
