Our story
OAKonsult began with one family and their daughter, Abigail. Here is how her life led to a charity that now supports families in the UK, in Nigeria and online.

It began with Abigail.
In April 2010, a preventable medical error in Nigeria left Olufunke and Ajisola Adeloye’s 18-month-old daughter, Abigail, with a brain injury. They had been married for six years, and it changed every part of their family’s life.
Doctors gave a poor prognosis, so the family moved to the UK with their three daughters, then aged five, three and 18 months, to find the medical care Abigail needed. Over the years she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and other complex conditions. She used a wheelchair, did not speak, needed oxygen day and night and relied on others for all her care.
Even with excellent care in the UK, the family were told Abigail would not reach the age of ten. In 2014 she moved to palliative care. She went on to survive ten life-threatening chest infections, including Covid-19.
Her name, Oluwatoyitan, means “can God be this great?”

How OAKonsult started.
The family’s Christian faith kept them going. Olufunke had many questions about why this had happened to Abigail. Over time, John 10:10 and its promise of life in abundance became the family’s anchor.
As Abigail reached each milestone, Olufunke and Ajisola felt called to help other families facing the same challenges, so that no parent carer would have to cope alone. They founded OAKonsult Disabilities Outreach in April 2021. The name comes from Olufunke Adeloye Konsult.
From the start, OAKonsult set out to help parent carers live a fulfilled life while raising a child with disabilities, to raise awareness of disability, and to make every part of life more inclusive.
Her courage sparked OAKonsult and now inspires OAK Centre Prime.
Olufunke Adeloye, Chief Executive Officer
Abigail’s legacy.
Abigail died in October 2024, aged 16. On 7 October 2025, a year after her death, we held a Remembrance and Disability Awareness Rally in Ogbomoso. It went from the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso.
In our 2025 newsletter, our Chief Executive called Abigail’s life “one for many”. Because of her, more children will be cared for with dignity, and more parent carers will know they are not alone.
We are building OAK Centre Prime, a disability centre in Oolo Town, Ogbomoso, in her memory.
